History
Salon des Refusés Exhibition follows the tradition of the 19th century Parisian Salon des Refusés (more on Wikipedia), when Napoleon let rejected works be exhibited alongside those accepted ones after artists protested the Salon jury’s rejection of 3000 works.
It’s hard to believe, but Édouard Manet, Whistler and other artists whose works are worth millions now, were actually rejected from the great Salon exhibition in their times in Paris. This is why we think it’s very important that we exhibit the artworks which were not accepted by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.
Do you recognize these artworks? They were exhibited at Salon des Refusés in 1863.
